Dillon was the first child that our founder Kevin Frederick worked with after completing his degree at Marist University in Poughkeepsie, NY. His mother Annie recalls their first meeting, and how much has changed since that day in 2007.
“When I first met Kevin he had just graduated college and was hired as the new Special Ed teacher for The Learning Center classroom. I was very skeptical, as I had a child with many challenging behaviors. I didn’t think Kevin had enough experience to know how to best help him to succeed and address the many challenges he presented.
Within no time, I changed my tune.
Kevin proved to be someone who truly cared and wanted to help his students and their families. Kevin would think out of the box and find different ways to address his challenges with positive reinforcement, sensory modulation and appropriate consequences, he wasn’t afraid to try something new. His level of patience, understanding and determination helped him over many hurdles.
Kevin looked at my son as an individual and tailored his needs specifically to what he needed. My son went from a boy who would seek out attention with inappropriate behaviors to a young man who now prides himself on appropriate behavior, helping others and doing the right thing. The impact Kevin had on my son I believe has helped to build the wonderful young man he is today.
His dedication, patience and love of his job was clear to see. He never gave up on any child and would always keep excellent communication with parents to work together as a team.

Even after Kevin started teaching at a different school he stayed in contact with my son, he saw his potential and always continued to give him opportunities. Kevin has worked with my son for approximately 13 years. They have a great bond. My son always enjoys spending time with Kevin. He has been instrumental in my son becoming the wonderful young man he is today.”
